Ok, maybe it is not that dramatic. However, you need to be aware your agent can kill a deal without you ever knowing it. As agents, we constantly counsel our buyers and sellers to not get emotionally involved and try to handle a transaction and negotiations as strictly business. But I have seen more and more agents themselves become personally emotionally involved and have seen at one recent case where the only person responsible for killing the deal was the seller’s agent. This “agent” didn’t like our offer and thought our reasons for the lower price were offensive (they weren’t). But the agent continued to put up unrealistic road blocks and was even caught in a lie. As I represented the buyers I never had any direct communication with the sellers and sometimes wondered if they even knew what their agent was saying to us. Also, I am ethically bound to not interfere with another agent’s client.
What can you do? You need to be able to trust that your agent is working in your best interest. Ask your agent for references and call them.
